Proper installation of plants and trees is critical. Preparation of space, supplementation of soil and awareness of underground utilities are factors to consider. Woodlands Green Thumb offers specialized equipment and experienced handlers that ensure protection of your property and investment.
Landscape maintenance requires attention to detail! Understanding growth habits, pruning techniques, water delivery systems and nutritional needs are just some of the factors Woodlands Green Thumb considers when providing maintenance. Efficient irrigation is essential for proper plant growth and ease of maintenance. A properly planned system considers turf and bedding areas and local water requirements and/or restrictions. We consider current water pressure, expected population growth and anticipated water availability. Then we design the proper system for your custom landscape
We service all brands of irrigation equipment. Our specialty is upgrading systems to be more efficient at covering the lawn while reducing the amount of water that is used. Green Thumb technicians are trained to rapidly diagnose and repair any type of irrigation system problems..
We start the process by meeting with you and evaluating your needs and concerns. We measure your water source and usage requirements and then we design your custom irrigation system. The system components are installed with long-term value in mind. For example, the control valves are installed on manifolds in accessible boxes in the ground where they are most easily serviced. The length of wire runs are kept to a minimum reducing the risk of hard to find shorted wires. Rain sensors are mounted where they can easily be adjusted, not high up on a gutter. We put thought and care into the installation of your sprinkler system to ensure the long-term value of high efficiency and low maintenance costs.
Pondless waterfalls give all the sound and aesthetics of a pond waterfall without the maintenance of a pond. These features can be small enough to fit in quaint courtyards or atriums to large multi-fall displays with meandering streams. Water is circulated through the waterfall and down the stream, disappearing into a pit of rock. This pit contains a rubber liner with the pump housing and auto-fill valve inside. These relatively maintenance-free features give a natural feel without the liability of a body of water. Pondless waterfalls have a dramatic presence and make any yard extraordinary.
Ponds are for the client that wants to interact with their landscape. Just 5 minutes of listening to a bubbling waterfall and watching fish drift lazily between lilies will change anyone’s attitude. Ponds can range from several feet across to swimming pool size and beyond.
Modern pond technology combines mechanical and biological filtration to keep water clear in a properly built feature. Our ponds are not the old bare liner pond with a row of rocks on the edge. Our ponds are a minimum 3-feet deep with shelves of stacked rock and gravel. Naturalistic waterfalls give sound, dramatic beauty, and circulate the water for filtration. A well built pond is about the best landscape centerpiece available if you don’t mind the small amount of maintenance involved.
Nothing can quite transform a landscape like a water feature. Whether it’s a dramatic waterfall or a quiet pond, water works its magic on any garden, providing a focal point and soothing the soul. Moving water provides delightful background music and masks traffic noise. If you’re thinking of adding a water feature to your yard consider Green Thumb. Our water features are all custom designed, and each one is unique.
Some of our fountains use the same principals and set up as the pondless waterfall. We dig a pit and then line it with a protective fabric barrier and pond liner. This method is far superior to the preformed plastic fountain bases. The preformed bases often do not catch the entire splash from the fountain, leaving a mess around the perimeter and wasting water. The fountain itself can be anything, from a bubbling boulder to several overflowing pots. These features can fit any space and are almost zero maintenance
Patios and pathways are considered to be a form of hardscaping. The hardscape is the non-living aspects of the yard such as patios, sidewalks, arbors, retaining walls and steps. These items provide the foundation of your landscape and must be planned so that they don’t dominate, but flow with the yard while performing its specific function. The many patio and sidewalk options available include concrete, plain and exposed aggregate, pavestone, flagstone and wood, just to name a few.
All flagstone patios are not the same. Just about every landscaping company claims to lay flagstone, but very few do it well. We have installed natural stone patios in The Woodlands and North Houston areas for over 20 years. The beauty and elegance of natural stone is impossible to achieve with man-made products. Our installers have spent years perfecting their techniques and take great pride in the finished product. We guide our customers through the stone selection process and give unsurpassed quality on the installation.
Pavers can give a more formal look and feel to any outdoor area and are as durable as they are attractive. This is another great patio option that will last for many years if done properly. Most of the strength comes from a properly compacted and stabilized, 4 to 6-inch sub base. Then, it is held together by a steel, reinforced curb. Skimping on either the curb or sub base will result in settling and spreading of pavers.
Pavers come in a wide variety of sizes, styles, colors, and textures. They are a great option for areas where concrete cannot be poured due to easements. In some situations, it can be considered a permeable surface where paved areas are limited by code restrictions.
Stamp Overlays and Spray Decks can ease the expense.
Stamped concrete is very durable and versatile product. One benefit of this surface is that it does not raise the height of the concrete. Stamp overlays can be used to remodel pea gravel and concrete pool decks without having to change pool coping due to change in surface height that occurs with stone. These surfaces can be done in any pattern or color combination.
A spray deck or cool deck is also a great surface that is often combined with flagstone. The concrete can be formed with recessed borders and patterns to install natural stone (generally accounting for less than 25% of square footage). The rest of the patio is done with the cool deck. This combination is very aesthetically pleasing and reduces the cost of an entirely flagstone patio.
Outdoor lighting is becoming an exciting addition to an evening stroll or late night drive. The beauty of a well-lit residence or business is appreciation at its finest. The latest lighting technology breaths life into the nighttime appearance of any property.
Installation jobs demand a strong foundation of stability. We understand this at Green Thumb, which is why we have crews that specialize in installation. That’s also why we guarantee the work long ofter its completion. After all, it’s not enough for the job just to go smoothly and within budget, it has to last after we’re gone. Good installation is a primary part of this because it means less maintenance and lower costs in the future.
What exactly is a french drain? “French Drain” is a term used as a synonym for a subsurface drain. A subsurface drain is a gravel-filled trench with a perforated pipe installed in the bottom. And a true French Drain is the same gravel-filled trench, but without the perforated pipe installed in the trench bottom.
Help prevent erosion
Disperse rainwater to your lawn’s soil
Prevent surface ponding
Remove water away from the house foundation
Any lawn will grow better with increased oxygen, water, and nutrient flow. However, compacted lawns, such as those that receive heavy foot or vehicle traffic, those that grow in poorly drained areas, and those that grow in clay soil, will benefit the most.
Green Thumb uses the best type of aerator; a power core aerator. This type has hollow tines mounted on a drum. As the drum turns, small plugs of turf are extracted and left behind you on the lawn as you push the aerator.
Aerate your lawn a few days after a good rain, when the soil is moist but not wet. Mark sprinkler heads, cable, and other underground wires so they won’t be damaged, and make two passes with the aerator, each perpendicular to the other, to ensure you covered the lawn thoroughly.
The resulting plugs of soil can be left on the lawn to decompose; or, wait a few days for them to dry and either rake them up or mow your lawn normally.
Lawn aeration is the removal of small plugs of soil from your lawn. Aeration improves the amount of oxygen available to the roots of your lawn (which need oxygen to grow), and also improves nutrient and water uptake. Lawn aeration is sometimes called “core aeration.” Aeration also helps to control thatch by providing oxygen to the microorganisms that break down the thatch layer
Woodlands Green Thumb generally aerates the lawn when it is in a period of active growth so that it recovers quickly. Warm-season grasses should be aerated in late spring.
